Foundation for  Women’s Cancer,

Beginning in 1995, the Foundation for Women’s Cancer has funded 89 research awards given to promising young investigators. As reported in the Foundation for Women’s Cancer 20th Anniversary Research Portfolio, www.thegcf.org/downloads/research_portfolio.pdf these awards have resulted in over 325 peer-reviewed publication, and attracted $58 M in extramural funding as a result of the initial research grant totaling $2.5M, a 23-fold return.  New grant awards are announced in early June each year when the Foundation for Women’s Cancer Research Grants & Awards brochure is published online.

Ovarian Cancer Australia

Ovarian Cancer Australia is a national not-for-profit organization providing support and advocacy for people affected by ovarian cancer and is the peak body for ovarian cancer awareness and prevention. Their programs are focused in these important areas:

  • Promoting awareness of ovarian cancer and its symptoms in the community – giving Australian women and their healthcare providers a better understanding of the early signs of ovarian cancer
  • Providing support networks and resources to women and their families and friends affected by ovarian cancer
  • Advocating with medical professionals, government and the media for women diagnosed with ovarian cancer
  • Each year in February they run a national Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month of events, media campaigns and community activities to highlight the symptoms of ovarian cancer and to promote their programs.

The OCRF has developed to become one of Australia’s pre-eminent body supporting ovarian cancer research programs that occur nationally, and are focused upon the understanding of the causes of ovarian cancer, its early detection and improve patient survival. The National Breast and Ovarian Cancer Centre (NBOCC) is Australia’s national authority and source of evidence-based information on breast and ovarian cancer.
